Welcome to the official page of the Department of Anaesthisology and Intensive Care at Jorhat Medical College & Hospital, Jorhat, Assam. Founded in 2010, the Department started with one Professor, 2 Associate Professors, 3 Assistant Professors and 5 Registrars; then headed by Prof.(Dr.) Lily Das till 2018. In the year 2018, Prof. (Dr.) Rajib Hazarika took over the charge of the Head of the Department from Prof.(Dr.) Lily Das till 2022.Dr.(Prof) Arunima Saikia took over the charge as HoD from April 2022.

 

                   Since inception, the department has come a long way presently comprising of 16 Faculties posts, 9 Senior Resident  POSTS, 8 Post Graduate Trainers (MD-Anaesthesiology & Critical Care) intake each year (8 per  batch)through NEET PG .Besides, it is well supported by Technicians (Anaesthesia O.T. Technicians -08 nos.  & Critical Care Technicians-12 nos) & also provides 2 years Paramedical training courses separately for critical care technicians & anaesthesia technology.

                    The Department provides anaesthesia services for various surgical specialties viz.General Surgery, Neuorosurgery, Orthopaedics & Trauma Surgery , ENT, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthamology  etc.

                     Besides, catering services to various surgical departments, he departments also provide anesthetic & critical care management to patients in Radio diagnosis (MRI, CT Scan), Phychiatry (ECT), Cardiology (Cathlab) & round the clock resuscitative services  in Emergency Room, Wards & various other in-hospital areas.

                     Apart from in-hospital  patient care services, the department also serves the neighbors  & peripheral parts of Jorhat providing anaesthetic & critical care managements. Doctors are posted periodically in peripheral health care centres from the department & provides hands on training to doctors there.

                     Presently, the department is running simultaneously twelve OT  tables for  both elective & emergency cases apart from having ninety-six (96) dedicated ICU beds. The department also runs a pre-anaesthetic clinic & pain clinic from Monday to Saturday.

                    Moreover, besides in-hospital & out of the hospital patient care services, the faculties of the department conduct regular theoretical classes for both UGs & PGs students, the departmental faculties leave no stone unturned to conduct regular seminars, journal clubs, workshops for the PG trainees in the morning (7 am –9 am) & evening (4 pm -6 pm) in the department. The PG trainees also take part in CMEs, webinars, online training in Critical care & anaesthesia. The faculties  also provide both practical & theoretical critical care management trainings to doctors in peripheral health set-ups.
