Activities carried out by the Department of Community Medicine in the year 2024
1. Plantation Drive
The Department of Community Medicine organized a Plantation Drive on 18th May 2024 in the village adopted by the 14th Batch students under the Family Adoption Programme. Different species of trees, which the Forest Department of Jorhat donated, were planted to enhance the local ecosystem as part of its ongoing commitment to promoting environmental sustainability, public health, and community welfare. The initiative aimed at raising awareness about the importance of green spaces, combating environmental degradation, and fostering a sense of responsibility towards nature among students, faculty, and the local community.
2. Health Camp
The Department of Community Medicine organized a Health Camp on 5th July 2024 at Sensuwa Gaon, Jorhat as part of its Family Adoption Programme, aimed at providing healthcare services to underserved communities and promoting overall wellness.The Health Camp provided free general health check-ups for all members of the adopted families. The medical team, consisting of doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals, 14th Batch MBBS students conducted routine health screenings, including measurements of blood pressure, blood sugar levels, Hb estimation.The camp offered specialized medical services in areas such as maternal and child health, dental care, and eye care. The camp also included a distribution of essential medicines for common ailments such as headaches, colds, and minor infections.
3. Poster making competition on the occasion of Swachhata Pakhwada
In celebration of Swachhata Pakhwada, a special Poster Collage Making Competition was organized for 12th Batch MBBS student on 4th October 2024. The topic was “Promotion of healthy lifestyle”. The poster was given away to the family as a gift to the adopted families under Family Adoption Programme.
4. World AIDS Day Celebration
The Department of Community Medicine commemorated World AIDS Day with a series of impactful events to raise awareness and foster a deeper understanding of HIV/AIDS.The highlight of the event was a Poster Competition among the 14th Batch, 15th Batch MBBS, BPT 1st Batch, BPT 2nd Batch and MPT 2nd Batch and MPT 1st Batch students of JMCH, designed to engage students and raise awareness about HIV/AIDS through creative expression. The posters were judged based on creativity, relevance, and the effectiveness of the message.In addition to the poster competition, a Skid Play was organized by the department, in the OPD complex, aimed at delivering a powerful message through dramatic performance. The play was performed by the students of 14th Batch. It centered around real-life stories of individuals affected by HIV/AIDS, highlighting the emotional, social, and psychological challenges they face.
