About

Department of Community Medicine was established in 2009 in the institute.The founder HOD was Prof. (Dr.) Beeva Baruah. The Main focus of the department is to evolve a feasible pattern of healthcare delivery for the masses and training of medical students to function as a Primary Care Physician, researcher and to work effectively in the areas of public health. The department also sought to provide community health orientation to various activities of the institute. The MD programme in Community Medicine was started in 2013 with three Post Graduation seats. In January, 2014 Prof (Dr). Bishnu Ram Das took over the charge of HOD. At present there are 13 faculties including a statistician cum Assistant professor in the department.

The department is involved following activities

Teaching and Training

It includes MD Community Medicine course (3 Seats per year), teaching of MBBS students in different phases of UG medical curriculum and training of MBBS interns during their postings in Rural and Urban Health training Centres under the department. Besides these courses, the department is involved in training of various categories of paramedical students/ workers of JMC as well as education of the general public.

Community Health Service

The department provides primary health care services to rural and Urban populations including urban slums and remote areas through Rural health Training Centre at Titabor, Urban Health Centre and to the Tea Garden Community through interns and PGTs in satellite areas of Jorhat district.The department have been organising and conducting various training and Health Camps in different parts of Jorhat and adjoining districts. The faculty members are actively involved in the supervision and monitoring of Various National Programmes from time to time.
